LCC Youth Leadership: Preparing Students for College and Career

In 1994, the Latino Youth Leadership Conference (LYLC) launched to increase the number of Hispanic students who attend college. The six-day conference is free for students and takes place on the campuses of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), College of Southern Nevada (CSN), and Nevada State College (NSC). Participating students get to experience college life first-hand– including a chance to board in dorm rooms.

Students who graduate from the LYLC can become members of the Latino Youth Leadership Alumni (LYLA) to stay connected with their peers. Young Adult Facilitators, Advisors, and Peer Facilitators work closely with the students and serve as positive role models who develop students’ leadership skills and reinforce the importance of staying in school and maintaining a healthy lifestyle free from alcohol and drugs. Hundreds of students have benefited from these programs in their journey to become successful leaders.
