During
four activity-packed days each June, sixty
Latino high school students from throughout
Nevada’s Clark County assemble for
life-changing leadership training and development
workshops. These outstanding Latino students
are selected on the basis of essays, academic
skills and participation in extracurricular
activities. Conference sessions are held
at various locations such as University
of Nevada, Las Vegas and the Community College
of Southern Nevada. Accommodations and conference
materials are provided at no cost to students
or their families.
The
Latino Youth Leadership Conference was initiated
to empower Latino youth by fostering leadership
skills; instilling cultural, community and
family values; and encouraging the pursuit
of higher education.
Since
1987, local golfers have made this annual
July event one of the LCC’s most successful
fundraisers. The playing package includes
lunch, soft drinks and raffle prizes. Many
of LCC’s member organizations graciously
donate prizes, services and facilities –
including two golf courses to accommodate
more than 288 golfers. Participation is
open not just to golf enthusiasts, but to
anyone who enjoys good socialization to
benefit a worthy cause.
Each
October, the LCC hosts this highly anticipated
gala dinner to honor LCC members who have
made significant, positive contributions
to the Hispanic community. Awards are bestowed
in several categories, including Construction,
Professional, Entrepreneur, Education,
Public Service and Tourism, as well as
Special Chamber Awards. The banquet culminates
with presentation of our top honor, the
Arturo Cambeiro Outstanding Hispanic of
the Year Award.

Annual Career Day 2008
Held
annually in November, Career Day is set
up to match the career interests of Latino
high school seniors with the needs of employer
sponsors throughout the community. Career
Day provides students the opportunity to
explore various occupations directly, and
to receive information about the education
requirements of any career they are interested
in.
Another
component of Career Day is the distribution
of scholarships to deserving students. These
scholarships result from sponsor fees, corporate
donations, and funds provided by University
of Nevada, Las Vegas and University of Nevada,
Reno, and the Community College of Southern
Nevada.
Since
we began Career Day twenty two years ago,
over 2,600 students have participated, and
more than 500 students have received scholarships
totaling almost $500,000.

Annual La Oportunidad
Business Conference & Consumer Expo 2009
Without
question, La Oportunidad Business Expo is
the premier annual Latino business event
in southern Nevada. La Oportunidad was created
to foster opportunities among area Hispanic
businesses, as well as to facilitate business
relationships within LCC membership and
the Hispanic business community at large.
Participants
at this event will be put in direct contact
with the rapidly growing, increasingly affluent
Hispanic market. La Oportunidad is the ultimate
venue for introducing products, services
and opportunities to this distinct and sizeable
consumer group.
