As one of our cornerstone activities, our monthly LCC luncheons are as informative as they are enjoyable. Our luncheons also provide one of Las Vegas’ best networking opportunities, as more than 250 diverse members and guests gather the third Friday of every month at various locations. Typically, our luncheons feature distinguished keynote speakers; LCC news and announcements; raffles; and, of course, good food and lots of fun.
Desayuno Con Amigos is a networking event conducted in Spanish. It is held monthly at various restaurants of LCC members. The purpose of Desayuno Con Amigos is to gather owners of small Hispanic businesses, and educate them on such subjects as service, marketing, finances, and so forth. Desayuno Con Amigos provides an outstanding way for businesses to market directly to the Spanish-speaking community. The food, we might add, is always delicious!
Meet. Mix Mingle. Over 150 professionals gather every month at prominent places throughout Las Vegas to network, socialize and promote themselves in a relaxed business environment.
Throughout the year, the LCC in collaboration with diverse professionals and experts put together seminars that cater to the success of our community. The seminar’s topics include but are not limited to leadership, small business, politics, and much more. Individually we all hold unique tools and talents. Our goal is to create an arena where continuously throughout the year we share our experience and grow together. It is now well understood that our success is not measured by where we stand individually, but rather where we stand a as a whole. We all have something to learn and share; please visit our calendar of events for upcoming seminars.
Our Business License Workshop is conducted the second Wednesday of each month by bilingual representatives from the city and county business license offices. We created this program to inform potential Hispanic entrepreneurs, and overcome their perception that there is a language barrier preventing them from securing necessary licenses. As a result of this program, both potential Hispanic licensees and unlicensed Hispanic businesses now have an avenue to get accurate licensing information, assistance with licensing application needs, and a way to understand general licensing laws and regulations.
Each September, the LCC hosts this highly anticipated gala dinner to honor LCC members who have made significant, positive contributions to the Hispanic community. Awards are bestowed in several categories, including construction, professional, entrepreneur, education, public service and tourism, as well as special chamber awards. The gala culminates with the presentation of our top honor, the Arturo Cambeiro Outstanding Hispanic of the Year Award.
Held annually in November, Career Day is set up to match the career interests of Latino high school seniors with the needs of employer sponsors throughout the community. Career Day provides students the opportunity to explore various occupations directly, and to receive information about the education requirements of any career they are interested in. Another component of Career Day is the distribution of scholarships to deserving students. These scholarships result from sponsor fees, corporate donations, and funds provided by University of Nevada, Las Vegas and University of Nevada, Reno, and the Community College of Southern Nevada.
Since 1987, local golfers have made this annual July event one of the LCC’s most successful fundraisers. The playing package includes lunch, soft drinks and raffle prizes. Many of LCC’s member organizations graciously donate prizes, services and facilities – including two golf courses to accommodate more than 240 golfers. Participation is open not just to golf enthusiasts, but to anyone who enjoys good socialization to benefit a worthy cause.
Our Installation Gala is an event not to be missed. Its purpose is to provide a ceremonial backdrop for officially swearing in the incoming Board of Directors, while formally recognizing the contributions of the outgoing Board.
Without question, La Oportunidad Business Expo is the premier annual Latin business event in southern Nevada. La Oportunidad was created to foster opportunities among area Hispanic businesses, as well as to facilitate business relationships within the LCC membership and the Hispanic business community at large. Participants at this event are put in direct contact with the rapidly growing, increasingly affluent Hispanic market. La Oportunidad is the ultimate venue for introducing products, services and opportunities to this distinct and sizeable consumer group.
The Latino Youth Leadership Conference (LYLC) was founded in 1994. Since its beginning, the primary goal of the LYLC has been to increase the number of Hispanic students who attend college. The conference is held for six days at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), College of Southern Nevada, and the Nevada State College. To get a better feel for college life, students are housed in the UNLV dorms throughout the entire conference. Students attend at no cost to them or their families. Students who graduate from the LYLC are eligible to become members of the Latino Youth Leadership Alumni (LYLA) where students can stay connected throughout the year. One of the keys to the success of the LYLC are the roles played each year by the Young Adult Facilitators and Advisors, and by the Peer Facilitators, who all work closely with the students and serve as strong role models. The LYLC has advanced the important messages of staying in school, preventing violence, increasing community involvement through volunteerism, maintaining a healthy lifestyle free of alcohol and drugs, and developing leadership skills. By doing these things, the LYLC and Alumni, have significantly changed the lives of hundreds of Hispanic youth and served to produce hundreds of caring and responsible members of our society.
