The Latin Chamber of Commerce, a partner with the "Earn It Keep It Save It," collaborative is recruiting Spanish-speaking volunteers for the 2010 tax season to provide free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) to Southern Nevada's lower-income working families so that they can more easily access the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).

EITC is the largest federal cash assistance program for low-income, working taxpayers and helps to lift more families out of poverty than any other government program. Eligible taxpayers can receive a refund of up to $5,657.00 in EITC.  To get those refunds, however, working families need help - from volunteers, specially trained and certified to provide tax-preparation assistance.

"We've organized a network of convenient tax-assistance locations for taxpayers.  Now we need some good people to step forward and help their neighbors claim the refunds waiting for them.  Volunteering just a few hours per week can really make a big difference for our community during these tough times," said Otto Merida, President of the Latin Chamber of Commerce.

It couldn't be easier to be a volunteer tax preparer for Earn It Keep It Save It, no experience is necessary. Basic tax law and e-file training is free and can result in IRS-certification.  A small investment of your time will directly impact our local economy and also will provide you with a valuable life-long skill that will look good on your resume.  Simply dial 385-7367 to learn when and where VITA training will be conducted near you.
