Minority Business Enterprise Coalition

The purpose of Minority Business Enterprise Coalition (MBEC) is to facilitate business opportunities and market share growth for minority business enterprises (MBE) through the interaction of corporate members and advocate organizations. MBEC strives to be an organization providing best-in-class advocacy, education, technical assistance and training for MBE growth and development, along with promoting equal access to opportunities throughout Nevada. MBEC seeks to achieve this by addressing the needs of corporate advocates and MBEs through evaluation, education, training and development. It provides effective leadership targeted at promoting successful corporate/MBE relationships that ensure business opportunities for MBEs. In addition to the affinity program, MBEC provides a series of seminars and workshops focusing on business management classes such as, business strategies, financial accountability, and management techniques, giving our minority contractors the knowledge and expertise needed to engage and negotiate with major corporations. A grant is awarded to those who complete the training program that will be used to fund the MBEC certification. For more information, call Leonard Hamilton (702) 382-9522.

Toastmasters En Español

Toastmasters is a wonderful way to improve your public speaking and leadership skills – and it all happens in a setting of mutual support, constructive feedback, and positive reinforcement. Whether you’re an accomplished speaker or a novice, there’s always room for improvement – and Toastmasters brings the new and experienced together to learn from each other. Toastmasters en Español improves not only our communication skills, but also our Spanish language skills. It doesn’t matter if you’re a native Spanish speaker … or if Spanish is a second language. Our club members, representing diverse backgrounds and cultures, are working together to improve their Spanish communications skills while identifying the most acceptable and universal words that translate across different Spanish-speaking cultures. Let’s have some fun together improving our skills and making new friends. Join us and practice your ESPAÑOL with us every second and fourth Mondays of the month at 6:00pm at the Latin Chamber of Commerce. For more information, contact Maite Salazar at (702) 951-9454.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program was established by the U.S. Government to provide free income-tax preparation assistance by IRS-certified volunteers. The free service is available to income-eligible working individuals and families at designated VITA sites, which includes the Latin Chamber of Commerce. VITA volunteers often help low-income, working taxpayers get the EITC refunds they might otherwise not claim. In partnership with United Way and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), local businesses and organizations have spearheaded the creation of Earn !t Keep !t Save !t. This collaborative’s mission is to help low-income families become self-sufficient and save money for the future. Its goal is to provide free tax return preparation and assistance with claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). According to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the EITC is the nation’s largest and most successful worker support program to spur economic development and strengthen the community’s workforce.
